The Novice Skier and the Black Diamond Trail
An adventurous vacationer went to a famous alpine mountain resort for his very first winter skiing holiday. After taking a brief thirty-minute introductory lesson on the flat bunny hill, he felt completely overly confident in his abilities and decided to take the high-speed chairlift all the way to the peak of the mountain. Standing at the top of a steep, terrifying black-diamond mogul trail, he quickly realized he was way out of his depth. Struggling to maintain control, he plunged down the slope, tumbling head over heels through powder snow, colliding with wooden marker poles, losing his poles, and finally coming to a stop in a massive snowbank right outside the mid-mountain ski lodge. A veteran mountain rescue worker rushed over, pulled the battered vacationer out of the snow, and asked, "Are you alright, sir? How on earth did you end up down here?" The bruised beginner wiped the ice from his goggles, caught his breath, and groaned, "Well, the brochure said this resort was famous for its fast downhill turns, but nobody told me I'd have to make them myself!"
The Talking Snowboarder and the Chairlift Ride
A veteran skier was riding a quad chairlift up a scenic mountain peak when a young snowboarder slid onto the chair beside him. As the lift carried them hundreds of feet above the snowy pine trees, the snowboarder unzipped his jacket, reached into his backpack, and pulled out a thermos of hot cocoa. Before taking a sip, he turned to the skier and asked, "Excuse me, sir, do you mind if I share a fascinating piece of mountain wisdom with you?" The skier shrugged and nodded. The snowboarder leaned in and said, "If you ever get trapped under a massive snow avalanche, the most important thing to do is dig a small pocket in front of your face and spit, so you can tell which way is down by gravity." The skier looked at him thoughtfully and remarked, "That is actually very clever advice! How did you learn that?" The snowboarder took a sip of his cocoa and replied, "I read it on the back of a cereal box while waiting for the ski patrol to dig me out last winter!"
The Elderly Couple's Alpine Ski Trip
An elderly couple celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary decided to fulfill a lifelong dream by taking a luxury ski trip to the Swiss Alps. While the husband was eager to hit the advanced slopes, his wife preferred to relax inside the heated mountain chalet with a warm mug of spiced cider. On the third day of the trip, a massive winter blizzard rolled in, reducing visibility on the upper peaks to absolute zero. Concerned for her husband's safety, the wife waited anxiously by the fireplace for hours. Finally, late in the evening, the front door burst open and her husband staggered into the room covered in snow from head to toe, looking completely exhausted with a broken ski strapped to his boot. "Oh my goodness!" she gasped, running over to help him. "Did you get lost in that terrible blizzard?" Her husband sank into an armchair, shook his head, and panted, "No, I didn't get lost at all! But I spent four hours trying to figure out how to unbuckle these boots!"
The Ice Hockey Goalie's New Helmet
A professional hockey goaltender who was notoriously defensive about his clean sheet record decided to purchase a custom-designed, state-of-the-art goalie mask. The helmet featured advance impact-absorbing foam, a reinforced steel cage, and a terrifying custom paint job depicting a roaring flame-headed dragon. During his first game wearing the new mask, he performed brilliantly, stopping thirty-eight consecutive shots on goal during the first two periods. However, early in the third period, an opposing forward unleashed a thunderous slapshot from the top of the faceoff circle that hit the goalie directly in the center of his new helmet with a loud metallic clang. The puck ricocheted off into the corner, but the goalie fell backward into his net, completely dazed. The athletic trainer sprinted onto the ice, unclasped the mask, and asked, "Are you okay? Do you know where you are?" The goalie blinked, looked around the rink, and replied, "I'm not sure, but whatever you do, don't let that dragon anywhere near the puck!"
